1. Avoid A Busy Background

Don’t let the background compete with your baby! After all she or he is who should be getting all the attention right? So try and avoid any background that will draw the judge’s eye. A blue or white sheet will do as well as a simple outdoor shot. The key is to really focus in on your child. 2. Take Lots of Photos

These days with digital cameras it’s easy to keep taking photos until you get the one you want! You can recreate your own model shoot and “click” away. Just be sure to keep your baby in a good mood and give them regular breaks.

3. Use A Photo Editing Program

A simple photo retouching program is all you need to get rid of “red eye” and to crop your photos to focus on your child. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on Photoshop either, a free web based program like Phixr.com or Picnik.com will work great.

4. Avoid Using The Flash

Instead of using a flash with your camera which can disorient your child and make it hard to get a natural looking shot, try using natural light. This tends to result in a softer and more pleasing photo.

5. Enter Contests More Than Once

Beautiful baby contests are running every month with prizes being given out if varying age categories so just because you didn’t win with one photo doesn’t mean you can’t win with another.
